It's Sabres Banquet Time!

There's Walter, father of "the Great One", and there's Troy, father of "the Next One". And then there's Bernie, father of "Captain Canada", who'll be gracing the stage at the 2010 edition of the PCA Sabres Athletics Banquet and Fundraising Auction as keynote speaker. Bernie Doan has been involved with hockey all of his life, whether as a player, coach or "dad", and enjoys mentoring young people to be their best. Bernie himself was drafted into the NHL some 30 years ago, and has a soul-stirring story of what (or who) took him from the hockey spotlight into the world of Circle Square Ranch camp ministry, near Halkirk, in Central Alberta.
The 7th Annual PCA Sabres Athletics Banquet and Fundraising Auction takes place Oct. 2 at the Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church Gym (123 - 4th Ave. South). Doors to the Banquet open at 5:00 pm, and you will enjoy delicious appetizers as you mingle and greet old and new friends, or start bidding at the Silent Auction tables. The Banquet formally begins at 6:00, with dinner music provided graciously by Connie Canfield and Kathy Oostra.
Organizers are happy to have CTV's Heath Brown back as MC for the evening, and Auctioneer Jon Radcliffe, as usual, conducting the Live Auction. This year's Auction boasts a few very unique items, one of them being a 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters Jersey signed by 10 original team members. The Trail Smoke Eaters won the 1961 World Ice Hockey Championships, and it wasn't until 33 years later, in 1994, that a Canadian team won that title again. To pique the interest of a whole different crowd, Kanyon View Ranch of Rumsey has graciously donated for auction a registerable American Paint Filly (foaled June 21, 2010). This beauty is a red dun with an overo pattern type. Also up for bid will be a 2010 Team Canada jersey signed by Sidney Crosby, a Phoenix Coyote jersey signed by "Captain Canada" Shane Doan, laminate flooring from Floor Den (w/installation), a Reba Concert Package, a week of Circle Square Ranch camp, and another beautiful saddle donated by Master Saddles. These items, along with the usual Flames/Oilers Game Tickets, the Ladies "Pamper Me" Package, and several delicious meals will make for a very lively auction! The "Treasure Chest" continues to be popular, and returns this year with a Radium Resort Vacation Prize Package worth $2700.00. For a donation of $25.00 to Sabres Athletics, the donor receives the gift of one key. One by one, key holders will try their keys until the lucky winner unlocks the "Treasure Chest"!
Tickets to the Sabres Athletics Banquet are now on sale and can be purchased at either the Prairie Christian Academy Elementary (443-4210) or Secondary School (443-4220) offices. Avoid disappointment and reserve your Banquet ticket today!
