28th Annual Ride for STARS goes August 13

 Stars Ride 2016

Sunday, August 13, is set for the 28th Annual Ride For STARS, being hosted at the TL Bar Ranch.

Last year, the event had 102 registered riders and raised over $40,000 for the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society Air Ambulance Service (STARS).

This year will have many of the same features as last year. These will include Jill Brodie and her “ducks and dog demonstration”, silent auction items and a popular quilt raffle.

A “Poker Rally” will be offered at $5.00 per hand.

Attendees will have an almost unending opportunity to be eating. This will begin with the Rumsey Volunteer Fire Department Breakfast going from 9 am to 11 am and then from 12 noon to 2 pm there will be Gooch’s Gang Lunch. From 4 pm to 6 pm one can get in on the Country Cookers Beef Supper. All the funds collected through all these go to the STARS cause.

Every year features the personal account of what STARS calls their VIP (Very Important Patient) relating how STARS came to their rescue in what amounted to a life-saving event, where getting medical attention quickly and then to a hospital was essential.

Last year the VIP was Lorna White, from Calgary, and the year before that is was Josh Bhikoo, from Drumheller. As of press time, the name of this year’s VIP has not been revealed.

The 28th Annual Ride is dedicated to Ernie Goddard, President of the STARS Committee, and one of the Rides founders, and a rider who has raised thousands of dollars for STARS.

Riders must have a minimum pledge of $20.00, but results from previous years show that one Junior rider brought in a top amount of $2,200, and a Senior rider had pledges of $9,330.

The TL Bar Ranch is east of Trochu, on Hwy 585, north of Tolman Bridge.
