Delectable Desserts and Music Too!

The Trochu Valley School Band put on another great performance for the community during their spring fundraiser, Delectable Desserts, at the Trochu Community Hall on Sunday, March 25.

The grade six band opened up the show at 2 p.m. with playing Penguin Promenade. They were followed by the grade seven band, then the grade eight band, and the senior band wrapped up the show playing before and after the school’s Rock Steady performance.

The senior band, which currently has nine graduating students, ended the show playing a piece with songs from the Blue Brothers soundtrack.

“Thank you band parents for working hard and thank you community for your support,” said Brian Vokins, the band teacher at Trochu Valley School.

The Trochu Valley Bands, grade six, seven, and eight, are currently getting ready for the music festival in Red Deer, from April 16 to 18.

The Rock Steady band performed two songs, Hooked on a Feeling and Sweet Caroline. They currently have nine band members and this is their second year as a band.

Darren Howard, a Teacher at Trochu Valley School, started the Rock Steady band. Howard said that playing in a rock band is a different style of performing and a different music experience than playing in the school band.

“It’s a chance for students to experience playing a different type of music,” said Howard.

The Trochu Valley Band Parent Society organized the fundraiser and sold many desserts such as cherry cheese cake, carrot cake, chocolate brownie, raspberry delight, fruit bowl, and a variety plate with smaller portions of the desserts.

There were over 250 community members that came to the Delectable Desserts to support the school and raise money for the band program with their desserts and 50/50 draw.

The bands performances ended at 3:30 p.m. and the band parents and community members helped stack chairs and put away tables.

It was a wonderful Sunday afternoon filled with great music, yummy desserts, and good company.
