Prairie Christian Academy to host 15th Annual Fundraising Banquet

Noah Welch

Prairie Christian Academy will host their 15th Annual Fundraising Banquet on Saturday, October 20.

The money raised at this year's events will continue to be use for funding regular student activities such as athletics and fine arts as well as transportation to such events. In addition, this year's funds will assist with the addition of a new playground, sports court and a baseball diamond.

The guest speaker for the evening will be former NHLer Noah Welch. After a successful NCAA career which included serving as captain of the Harvard University team in 2005, Welch, a second round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005 played a total of 75 NHL games with four teams: Pittsburgh, Florida, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. He played a total of 13 professional seasons and most recently played for Team USA in the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang. Amidst all these teams and leagues of hockey, Welch notes the most meaningful part of his NHL career is that by the grace of God in 2008 while playing for the Florida Panthers he became a follower of Jesus. Recently retired, Welch is now working on opening a large multi-sport Dome in Red Deer County.

In addition to Welch’s talk, the Fundraising Banquet will feature a silent auction as well as a live auction conducted by Jon Radcliffe for items including a Honda Snowblower, a Canmore ski trip, a sturgeon fishing trip, date night in Calgary, Flames tickets, and several meal packages, just to name a few.

The evening will once again be hosted by Master of Ceremonies Heath Brown.
