Director of Operations

Under the general direction of the CAO, the Director of Operations is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the planning, coordinating and supervision of activities in the Town’s Operations Department including; public works, recreation facilities, water and sewer, solid waste management services, roads, fleet maintenance, recycling, sidewalks, storm sewers and drainage.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Management experience and a good understanding of engineering would be an asset.  Work experience in a municipal setting with proven organizational, leadership, strong interpersonal, good communication and public-relation skills.

Arboretum Facility Manager
This position will commence on or about April 1, 2015 and will terminate October 15, 2015. The term of the position is under review and may lead to permanent part-time or full-time employment.  
REGULAR HOURS:  40 hours per week, you may be required to work additional hours during planting and special functions.  There may be some requirement to work on weekends.  You are required to schedule time off in lieu.  
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1.  Responsible for the care, operation and maintenance of the Trochu and District Arboretum;
2.  Carry out all planting, weeding, mulching, grooming, and trimming, of plants, trees and bushes;
3.  Maintain all pathways, green areas, picnic areas, flowerbeds, ponds and buildings with the exception of the Arboretum House which is under a separate contract.
4.  Responsible for the annual spring preparation and fall clean-up of the grounds and buildings;
5.  Maintain Arboretum equipment and machinery;
6.  Install, maintain, operate and repair irrigations systems;
7.  Operate various pieces of equipment such as lawnmowers, weed whips, light tractors and light single axle trucks, etc.
8.  May be required to assist in the design as well as the preparation, planting and maintenance of flowerbeds, shrubs and trees;
9.  Responsible for scheduling all events at the Trochu Arboretum and Gardens and Visitor Interpretive Center;
10.  Supervise staff, schedule shifts and collect timesheets;
