
The 2010 Municipal Election ballots have been tallied up, and the unofficial results are in. Voter turn out at the polls was considered high in all jurisdictions. Numbers are fairly close in each election, and it is evident that "change" was on the mind of the citizenry.
The six new Councillors joining Mayor Elect Timothy J. Shearlaw for the Town of Three Hills are: Incumbents Harold Leo (722) and David Nadeau (580). The four new faces will be Vernon Wiebe (696), Al Campbell (600), Ronald Howe (591), and Terry Lee (560). Terry Ann Diack (541), Daryl Notter (504), and Troy Yeaman (410) were unsuccessful. The Town of Three Hills issued 1060 ballots, which puts the voter turnout at approximately 52 percent.
Town of Trochu saw 363 people come out to vote for their new Council. The election resulted in five incumbents being re-elected. Incumbents Kevin Helmer (258), Darcy Wagstaff (247), Bill Cunningham (247), Chris Reeds (229) and Barry Kletke (221) are returning for another term. Newly elected Councillors are Valerie Warnock (241) and Cheryl Lumley (229). Not elected were Don Portz (204), Cheryl Hollidge (146), and Darla Gagyi (110). Mayor to be elected from within Council.
The Village of Acme is starting fresh with an all new Council, as no incumbents were re-elected. Acme reported a 75 percent voter turnout, with 247 of its estimated 330 eligible voters. The five brand new Councillors will be Leona Dekoter (148), Fred Theaker (140), Bruce McLeod (133) Glenn Harding (131) and Robert Kessler (123). Not re-elected were incumbents John Tersteeg (96), and Dennis Kuiken (95).
In the Village of Linden's election, there was a return of all 5 incumbents but the voting numbers were very close with only 53 votes separating all 7 candidates. Linden had 212 voters come out from an approximate 613 of eligible voters, which is about 34 percent. In the previous election of 2004 the number of voters was 176. The Councillors are Annon Hovde (103), Darwyn Moon (143), Vanessa Van de Meer (154), Leslie Hibbs (151), and Flo Robinson (145). Not elected were Michelle Peckham (101) and Julie Hillis (99). Mayor to be elected from within Council.
The Village of Carbon did not experience the excitement of an election this term, as all Councillors are acclaimed. A Mayor will be chosen from the five Councillors, and they are incumbents Dan Pedersen, Shirley D. Buyer, and Valorie Reed. The newcomers are Michael Still and Richard Ekman.
Kneehill County elected by acclamation an all-incumbent Council. The seven division positions are filled as follows, Brian Holsworth (Div.1), Carol Calhoun (Div.2), Jerry Wittstock (Div.3), Glen Keiver (Div.4), Bob Long (Div.5), Ken Hoppins (Div.6) and Robert L. Painter (Div.7). Reeve to be elected from within Council.
For the position of Golden Hills School Division School Trustee for Ward One, Larry Maerz (718) beat out Barry Kletke (584). David l. Price acclaimed School Trustee for Ward Two.
