Suspicious bale fire east of Linden

700 Bale Fire

Linden Fire and Rescue, Carbon and Acme Fire Departments, along with a tender from Three Hills attended a bale fire east of Linden on Thursday, Nov 2, around 4:15 p.m. As the property owner was turning into the yard, at Range Road 24-2 and Linden’s 30-4 he witnessed a male wearing a cowboy hat, driving away in an older, white Chevrolet, extended cab. As he was leaving the property, the intruder reportedly even waved at the owner.

Following the tracks in the snow to the centre of the bale stacks, the property owner saw that a fire had been started and called it in to the fire department. The bale stacks were on the north side of a cow shed and fire fighters were able to save the building but not the 700 bales.

If anyone has information about the identity of the intruder, please notify the Beiseker RCMP at (403) 947-3420, the investigating detachment.

The fire inspector is looking at arson as one avenue to explore but has not made a final determination that it was indeed arson. The fire is still considered suspicious in origin and remains under investigation.
