2017 got off to a good start with the arrival of the New Year’s Baby at the Three Hills Health Centre.

A baby boy, Titus, was born on January 5, 2017, to Mariam and Martin Wurz.

A seven vehicle crash took place on the Equity bridge at about 1:45 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Strong winds, blowing snow and icy roads were all factors. Five victims were road ambulanced to Three Hills Health Centre.

Community rallies around the O’Neil family following dog attacks on their four-year-old son. The attacks happened on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 3, at a friend’s Calgary home.

Police investigate the theft of a truck, trailer and four snowmobiles. All but one of the snowmobiles were located a few miles south of the Linden area residence.

The Dale Brown rink wins the top prize in the Three Hills Farmers’ Open Bonspiel.

A structural fire in Torrington causes extensive damage on Friday, January 6. The owner, and lone occupant, was able to escape uninjured.

Torrington Fire Department respond to a single vehicle rollover on Wednesday, March 15. The 24-year-old male driver, and lone occupant, was killed. He was not from the area. The license plate on the vehicle had been stolen in Calgary.

Cruise Weekend, in Three Hills, is another huge success but not before an EF1 tornado touches down just north of Three Hills. Several buildings and vehicles are severely damaged. International attention is gained with the introduction of “The Lawnmower Man” to the world.

Seniors Week wraps up with the election of a new Seniors Outreach Board of Directors. They include Steve Estabrooks, Ross Gaehring, Rhoda Murray, Joyce Penner, Donna DuBois, Ella Lammle, and Margaret Richards.

Four Trochu Firefighters and one Torrington member receive service medals. They are (from Trochu) - Alan Adam (21 years), Ken Wohl (52 years). Ken receives his Third Bar representing 30 years following the 20 year medal. Richard Hoppins (21 years) and Torrington’s Mike Bauer (24 years)

A horrific crash on Highway 21, about two kilometers north of Highway Nine, claims the life of a 16-year-old girl.

RCMP are investigating a Break and Enter at the Linden Convenience Store. Two men backed a stolen pickup through the front of the store but were met by the owner. The two men fled the scene in the truck.

Trish Mandel is named Volunteer of the Year at the Village of Acme.

Linden Firechief Shawn Klassen and Firefighter John Baerg each receive 12 year Alberta Emergency Service medals.

Swalwell 4-H Beef CLub’s Wyatt Becker won Grand Champion Steer and Best Home Raised Calf. Swalwell’s Sadie Miller won Grand Champion Steer and Best Rate of Gain and Swalwell’s Brannon Piepke won Grand Champion Female.

Three Hills Victim Services raise over $15,000 at their Lobsterfest.

Medical support Staff Awards were presented to Gereroso Gozo, of St. Mary’s Hospital and Dianne Moran, of the Primary Care Network (Kneehill Medical Clinic), at the Annual Kneehill Regional Doctor Attraction and Retention Board Barbeque.

Police recover a vehicle, stolen in Three Hills, in the city of Calgary. Apparently, the truck was left unlocked with the keys in the ignition. The theft took place at about 1:30 pm on Friday, June 23.

A search warrant completed in Acme yields drugs, a gun and results in the arrest of two men.

The Town of Trochu signs an agreement with the Golden Hills School Division, for the takeover of the former Outreach School building. The building will become the new Trochu Town Office.
