Two vehicles collide at Intersection of Highways 21 & 575

MAP 0003

The fire departments of Acme, Carbon and Linden, along with AHS and Beiseker RCMP were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision Tuesday evening, Nov. 20 at the intersection of Hwy 21 and 575 (Acme-Carbon) at around 6:50 p.m. Initially it was thought to have involved multiple vehicles but that was not the case. “It did look like more”, noted RCMP. A black coloured westbound pick-up apparently went through the intersection, colliding with a southbound pick-up truck. The driver, (lone occupant) of the westbound vehicle was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The southbound truck had the driver and another occupant. One was transported to the medical centre, checked for injuries and released.

Both vehicles ended up in the southwest corner of the intersection, with the southbound vehicle landing upside down into a power pole and electrical wires. The stop sign was taken out during the collision.

RCMP shut down the highway to traffic until about 1:00 a.m. The subjects involved were all male and from Alberta. The weather was normal, the roads dry and it was dark. Signs were in place, along with rumble strips. The RCMP cannot stress enough, that drivers must be more aware. This time, people lived through it, but perhaps not, the next time.

Charges are pending as to what the criminal investigative team and the collision analysts will conclude, as to whether the charges will be under the traffic safety act and/or criminal in nature.
