Three Hills Council amends Snow Removal Policy

Three Hills Town Council’s regular meeting was called to order at 5:39 pm.

Under New Business, Council accepted amendments to Policy #110 - Street Maintenance - as presented. The Public Works department reviewed snow removal routes and suggested amendments to reflect changes in Land Use and travel time for ambulance response to senior housing facilities.

Council supported a request for a financial contribution to the annual Three Hills Victim Services Steak and Lobster Dinner and Silent Auction with a $1,000 grant. In 2018, Three Hills Victim Services helped 733 individuals affected by tragedy and loss.

The Three Hills Curling Club is celebrating its 40th Annual Cash/Car Dance on Saturday, April 13. Council supported prize donations of $200 cash and town merchandise with a value of $100.

A number of housekeeping matters were approved concerning the transfer to and from restricted surplus accounts. This comes as a result of the completion of the 2018 year-end. The Town Audit is now in progress. Representatives from BDO, the Town’s Audit firm, will attend the April 8, 2019 regular Council meeting to present the Financial Statements to Council. The Town of Three Hills Financial Statement is a public document, once accepted by Council, and will be posted on the Town’s official website.

Council also authorized the Mayor and CAO to enter into the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI)Amending Memorandum of Agreement. Payment of the 2019 MSI funding will not be made until this agreement has been signed and returned.

MSI helps support infrastructure priorities such as our roads, sidewalks, water and sewer. Since the MSI was introduced in 2007, Three Hills has received $8,415,318.00.

Three Hills CAO Lori Conkin was congratulated on completing a Municipal Executive Certificate Program. The week-long training session was conducted by the University of Alberta School of Business Executive Education department.

Council moved into closed session at 6:27 pm to discuss two matters.

Council moved back into open session at 7:10 pm and Mayor Tim Shearlaw adjourned the regular Council meeting of March 11, 2019 at 7:11 pm.
