Operation Christmas Child 2019 is underway

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child 2019 is underway now in Three Hills with collection week being November 18-23.

This project, under the auspices of Samaritan’s Purse, is now in its 26th year.

Logistics Coordinator Bobbie Bauer says of this project: “It starts with you packing shoeboxes full of small gifts. The gifts go to children in some of the most destitute parts of the world, as a tangible and very meaningful expression of God’s love.”

This year the boxes are being sent to the following countries: El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

While the object is to present children with gifts that are practical, as in school supplies, toiletries and toys, first and foremost it is an evangelistic effort that allows the gospel to be presented to the recipients and for them to be involved in follow up classes and discipleship.

Most local churches are involved in one way or another. For convenience sake, boxes may be picked up at the Great Canadian Dollar Store in Three Hills. For those who wish to contribute but are not sure of what would be appropriate to buy and pack into the boxes, pre-packed boxes may be purchased.

Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church will serve as a final drop-off site before the boxes are transported to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Centre and Samaritan’s Purse facilities in Calgary. Further information will be available in churches and by contacting coordinator Bobbie Bauer at 403-443-2283.
