Ground-breaking held for Water Treatment Plant Upgrades

WTP Ground Break

Town of Three Hills Administration and Council gathered on Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, with Chandos Construction and ISL Engineering to break ground on the Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project. This $16.7 million project is the largest that the Town has undertaken since the original Plant was built in 1981.

In 2018, Town of Three Hills Council started the process of planning upgrades to the Town of Three Hills Water Treatments Plant. After successful receiving $8.9 million in grant funding through Alberta Transportation, Town Administration and Council were able to turn that planning into action. To assist in the planning and design of the upgrades, ISL Engineering was brought on after successfully being awarded the contract via a competitive bidding and qualification process.

The Water Treatment Plan upgrades, designed by ISL Engineering, involves modernizing the plant to incorporate advanced water treatment processes, retrofitting existing treatment processes to provide a more comprehensive treatment and to install streamlined controls and automation throughout the plant. When completed, the Plant will exceed Alberta Environment Standards.

In November of 2019, Chandos Construction was awarded the contract to complete the Water Treatment Project. Chandos has solid experience in Water Treatment Plant Construction and Upgrades, completing numerous projects in Alberta. Construction will take place throughout 2020 with completion scheduled for Summer 2021.
