KIRK, Norris Murray

Norris Kirk

Norris Murray Kirk, age 77, entered his eternal rest on Monday evening, June 26, 2017. Norris was born December 6, 1939 to Arthur and Isabella (Bella) Kirk in Three Hills, Alberta, the oldest of 3 children. Around 3 years of age, Norris contracted scarlet fever, which resulted in a loss of hearing in one of his ears and some loss in his other ear as well. Norris was one of the blessed ones to receive the recently discovered drug, penicillin for complications that set in from scarlet fever. Despite the treatment he still needed to wear a hearing aid for the rest of his life. When Norris was around 7 years old, Hector Hanna shared that Jesus was the source of eternal life. At that time, Norris made the decision to accept Jesus as his personal Savior. Norris’ loss of hearing made learning in school a real challenge. However, despite this handicap, he completed some of his junior high education with a high proficiency in math at the Bethel School, a short walk from his country home. From then on, he helped his father on the farm as well as taking on various jobs including working with the original Kirk’s Sheet Metal Products company. Norris took an apprenticeship in sheet metal and welding. In October 1971, he started a partnership with Vernon Wiebe at Kirk’s Sheet Metal Products. A year later, his father had a heart attack, which resulted in Norris moving from Three Hills to the country where he took over the family farm. Norris was a hardworking man who always had the time to help others.Work was not everything in Norris’ life; he was also introduced to Tina Siebert, a beautiful Mennonite nurse working at the Three Hills hospital. This relationship resulted in many long but worthwhile trips to Coaldale, Alberta. On December 17, 1966, Norris married Tina. About a year later, he rededicated his life to the Lord and later was baptized. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Lorraine, Dennis and Andrew. Although life was busy with farming, working at Kirk’s, and raising a family, many special times were spent together as a family. He was known to be an easy-going, generous, humorous man deeply loved and respected by his family and those around him. On July 10, 1986, Tina passed away after almost 20 years of marriage. During those lonely years that followed, Norris was able to do something he always wanted to do: use the skills God gave him in missions. One year, in February/March, Norris went to Amsterdam, Holland and used his welding and maintenance skills serving on the LOGOS ship with OM. On September 17, 1989, Norris married Helen Dyck, a sister of Tina’s. The family immediately expanded with four more adult-age children-John, Randy, Terry and Carolyn. The next years sped by as Norris continued to work as well as enjoy the next phase of life not only as a parent, but also as a parent-in-law and grandfather. Just before Helen passed away on June 22, 2011, Norris became ill and was unable to attend Helen’s funeral. After receiving the diagnosis of multiple myeloma and needing lengthy hospital stays, he took up residence at the Chateau in Three Hills. In December 2015, Norris moved back to the farm he loved. There, he happily stayed with his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Suzanne while enjoying great care until he passed away peacefully into the presence of His Heavenly Father. Norris was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather! We thank God for him and for the godly legacy he left behind. Norris will be very much missed by his children Lorraine (David) Rianto of Calgary/China, Dennis (Josee) Kirk and Andrew (Suzanne) Kirk both of Three Hills and step-children John (Sandra) Dyck of Lethbridge, Randy (Carol) Dyck of Lethbridge, Terry (Darlene) Dyck of Coaldale, and Carolyn (Garry) Cunningham of Three Hills, and all his grandchildren, two brothers Marvin (Margaret) Kirk and Alvin (Betty) Kirk of Three Hills and many relatives and friends. Norris was predeceased by his parents; Arthur and Isabella Kirk and his beloved wives, Tina and Helen. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday June 30, 2017 at 1:30 pm from the Bethel Fellowship Church, Three Hills. Norris was laid to rest that morning in the Three Hills Cemetery.
