McKIBBIN, Shirley Irene

Shirley McKibbin

February 14, 1926 - May 24, 2018 - Shirley Irene (Magee) McKibbin passed away quietly at the age of 92 years. Shirley was born and raised in Stettler and she started teaching school in a one room school at age 17. When Shirley came to teach at the Fertile Valley School and the Three Hills Rural School, she met Don McKibbin. They were married July 21, 1951 and moved into Three Hills and later to their farm southwest of Three Hills. Don worked at Shearlaw Brothers Locker and farmed, and Shirley taught mostly Grade 3 until her retirement. She always warned that if you were bad, she would turn you over her “red checkered apron”! Don & Shirley enjoyed many trail rides with their horses in the mountains and in the Red Deer River area. Shirley was a beautiful seamstress, and she also enjoyed many crafts - including the art of weaving on her loom. After Don’s passing, Shirley moved into Three Hills and she also purchased a cabin at Buffalo Lake where she enjoyed many summers in the area where she grew up as a young girl. When her home became too much for her, she moved to the Golden Hills Lodge where she loved the fun and company and care of many. As her health declined, she moved to the Westview Lodge in Linden and then to Stettler to her old hometown. Shirley passed away at Points West Lodge. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Don in 1992, sister & brother-in-law Pauline & Frank Avery, sister Kathleen Hart, brothers & sisters-in-law Don & Marion Magee and Larry & Soris Magee and sisters & brothers-in-law Mabel & Albert Parker, Margaret & Oscar Arvidson, and Kay & Len Brookwell. She is survived by brother-in-law Vince Hart as well as several nieces & nephews and many great nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
