Edith Lehmann

November 30, 1927 to October 1, 2018 - Edith Agnes (Nielsen) Lehmann passed away suddenly on October 1, 2018 at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre in Trochu, Alberta. Edith was born on November 30, 1927 in Standard, Alberta to Christian and Agnes (Norgaard) Nielsen. She was the youngest of seven children. Her parents immigrated from Jutland, Denmark and farmed in the Standard area. Edith attended Chimney Hill School west of Standard until she moved with her parents to the Allingham district west of Three Hills where she attended Crown School. She went to high school at Salem School, Sunnyslope and Three Hills Town School. In 1947, Edith attended the University of Calgary to receive her teacher’s certificate, and taught for thirty-five years at Vale View School, Stuart School, Frontier School in Wimborne, Midway School, Viscount Torrington School, and Three Hills Town School. Edith married John Lehmann on August 21, 1949 in Torrington. They built their first home in Torrington in 1949. They lived there until John’s career on the railroad with CPR took them many places in Saskatchewan and Alberta. They later returned to Torrington where John and Edith enjoyed life with their two children, Morrey and Linda. They attended Trinity Lutheran Church. Edith loved teaching just up the street from their home. John and Edith both had farming roots so they decided to invest in farmland. They also enjoyed curling, yard work, and visiting friends and family. In 1985, John and Edith moved to Trochu where they built a new retirement home. They both attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, had coffee at the Trochu Drop-In Centre and enjoyed entertaining their children and grandchildren. John and Edith loved supporting their grandchildren at their various activities and school events and took great pride in their children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. John passed away in January 2003. Edith continued to enjoy reading, playing bingo, bowling, going for walks, cross-stitching, doing puzzles, and spending time with her family. Edith made the decision to move out of her home to St. Mary’s Health Care Centre in Trochu in January of 2018. She often said how fortunate she was to have such a nice place to live. She was blessed with good health and loved attending family celebrations right up to her passing. Edith will be lovingly remembered by her children, Morrey Lehmann (Donnette Mammel) and Linda (Bruce) Robertson. She enjoyed time with each of her grandchildren: Heather Lehmann (Darrin Morgan), Travis Robertson, Christopher (Roxanne) Lehmann, Leanne (Mark) Templeton, and Spencer Mammel. She also found joy in her two great-grandsons, Logan Templeton and Kaden Morgan. She is survived by her brother-in-law Mike Page, sister-in-law Margaret Nielsen, sister-in-law Lydia (Almer) Weisenburger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edith is predeceased by her husband, John Lehmann, her siblings, Jens Nielsen, Helvig Nielsen, Elmer Nielsen, Ella Manville, Erna Nielsen, and Vera Page, as well as her parents, Christian and Agnes Nielsen.
