BAERG, Arnold

Our husband, dad and grandfather ARNOLD BAERG was born February 28, 1925 to Peter L. Baerg and Eva Schartner Baerg at the home place near Linden. He peacefully slipped away with his family nearby on November 4, 2018 at the Westview Care Community, reaching the age of 93 years. Just before his third birthday, his dad passed away, leaving him a lonely little boy. A few years later his Mom married Abe Duerksen. Dad was baptized at the age of 13, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Life was not always easy during his growing up years. He left home at a young age, working at the Burns Packing Plant in Calgary and later for his brothers Pete and Paul in a sawmill in the west country. He drove truck for a time and often stopped at the café in Linden where our Mom worked. Around the age of 24, he made the life changing decision to commit his life to God and he remained true to his faith until the very end. Dad married mom, Anne Reimer on May 29, 1949. Their love and devotion for each other was strong for nearly 70 years. Their faithful commitment to God and His Church had a lasting influence on all his children and grandchildren. Dad and Mom lived on the farm his father homesteaded in 1903. Dad worked hard together with his brother-in-law Bert Baerg in the welding shop and at the same time began his farming career. Eventually this evolved into a full time farming career with Mom and us children. Through the years 3 sons and 2 daughters were born to them. We loved our Dad and he was our strong rock and support; we felt their love and prayers for us. Dad was creative and spent many happy hours in his woodshop, building furniture for his children and grandchildren. When something was broken, he could almost always fix it. They also spent some fulfilling times at the Children's Home in Gallup, New Mexico, enjoying the children and "their" girls, making lifetime friendships with them. Dad suffered with acute arthritic pain but was full of fun quips and could always enjoy the visits of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In January 2014, they made a move to Westview Care Community. They were happy there, enjoying many visits with family and friends. Dad made the statement that this place was next best to heaven, reflecting the exceptional care he received there. He will be remembered by his loving wife, Anne, 3 sons and 2 daughters: Murray (Marguerite), Pat (Richard Toews), Bruce (Wanda), Lorrin (Catherine), Darlene (Bert Boese), 19 (38) grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. Siblings: Agnes Toews, Lydda and Walter Regehr, Dave and Dorothy Duerksen. Mom's siblings: Bernice and Jac Reimer, Fred and Doreen Reimer, Suzanne Reimer, Carrie and Tom Courtney, Howard and Edith Reimer, Ralph and Jerri Reimer and Gilbert Reimer. The family extends deepest gratitude to the staff at Westview Care Community for the loving care he received. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 08, 2018 at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Linden, Alberta with interment in Linden Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
