Hazel Arvidson

The family of Hazel Iva Arvidson is sad to announce her passing just one month shy of her 100th birthday. Hazel was born in Trochu, AB, on March 7, 1919, to Glenn and Emma (Schneider) Farrow and spent her childhood on the family farm northeast of town where she attended Harrow School. She often spoke with pride about riding various horses to and from the one-room school house. She later attended high school in Spokane, WA, before returning to Trochu to help her dad and step-mother on the farm. Hazel married Albert Arvidson on March 28, 1945, and they farmed in the Mount Vernon district southeast of Three Hills. They had three children: Marion (Phil Johnson), Robert (Judy) Arvidson and Merl (Maureen) Arvidson. Hazel was proud of her nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother Emma, her father Glenn and her step mother Mary Ellen and her beloved husband Albert. Hazel was very active in church and community in Three Hills. She was a founding member of the Ghost Pine Community Group which was active for 65 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served as District Deputy. Many rural residents remember Hazel best from the years when she drove a school bus from the Mount Vernon area to the Three Hills School. Hazel was pleased with the care and consideration she received at both Golden Hills Lodge and Westview Care Centre in Linden. A Celebration of Life will be held at Knox United Church on March 2 beginning at 2 p.m. Donations in her name may be made to Knox United Church, Golden Hills Lodge or Westview Care Centre. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kneehill Funeral Services 443-5111.
