FARRELL, Robert Douglas

August 12, 1943 - February 28, 2019 - Robert (Bob) Douglas Farrell was born in Toronto, Ontario to Eleanor (nee Browe) and John Farrell (Originally of Paisley, Scotland). Bob was raised in London, Ontario. He enjoyed playing baseball and Boy Scouts, which developed into a love for the outdoors. He played the trumpet in the London Police Boys Band and appreciated Big Band Jazz music. His initial relationship with Jesus started while he and his sister Beverley attended church with their Mom in London. Throughout his life, he always made time for family. Bob graduated from University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) in 1966. During his studies he met his cousin’s roommate, Dianna Jeanne Parkinson, and on June 4th, 1966 they were wedded at Centennial United Church in London. They moved to Sudbury for his first engineering job with INCO, and arrival of first daughter Rosanna in 1967. His career saw the family moving often, initially back to southern Ontario, where their second daughter Christine was born in 1970, followed by their son Glen in 1971. From Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg and his final engineering position as Director and Senior Vice President of the BC Cochrane Engineering Group in Vancouver. Bob loved to run, participating in numerous races including 7 marathons (with a best time of 3hr 30min), qualifying and running in the 100th Boston Marathon. When he could no longer run, he walked. Bob & Dianna moved to Calgary in 1998 to retire, where Bob opened his own business (Farrell Financial Services). However love of family drew them back to Regina (first granddaughter Erica), then on to Three Hills (granddaughters Thea and Mae). His relationship with God grew here and led him and Dianna into a deeper commitment to the Lord Jesus. They were both baptised by Pastor Peter Rashleigh in June of 2010 at Prairie Tabernacle Church. In Three Hills, Bob loved spending time with his family, and was known for his baking. He was a willing volunteer, whether painting at PBI (with the Holy Rollers), helping at the Tilley, or at church (from stacking chairs to counting money), with Dianna: hymn sing and visitation at the local long term care facility, Interserve Prayer group (the mission their daughter Rosanna served with in Nepal), and collecting bottles to send funds to support mission work in Nepal. Most of all in his last years he was an avid Prayer warrior praying for missionaries, his church and his family, attending weekly bible study, putting God first each day. Bob leaves behind his dearly loved wife Dianna of almost 53 years; his daughter Rosanna (Alan) Clark and grandson Robert (LaGlace, AB); daughter Christine Farrell (John Switzer) granddaughter Erica Leask, and step-grandchildren Julianna and Valentina (Victoria, BC); and son Glen (Sonja) Farrell and granddaughters Thea and Mae (Three Hills, AB). His sister Beverly Farrell (Jim Freeman) (London, ON), nephew Christopher Blow (Toronto, ON), and niece Jackie Freeman (Montreal, QC); his cousin June Hewitt and her family (London, ON); and a number of cousins in Ontario and Quebec. Bob had an incredible deep love for his family and the Lord. We look forward to seeing him again one day. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mount Olive Church on Friday, March 8th at 2 pm. Kneehill Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements 443-5111.
