Hollie Beattie

On March 5, 2019, Holly passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family. Born December 26, 1951, Holly grew up in the Ghost Pine area with her two brothers Beverly and Richard; and her six sisters Mary Jane, Susan, Doris, Candyce, Elizabeth and Jennifer. Her dream was to become a teacher so she left the farm to go into university in Edmonton. She was a devoted teacher who went above and beyond the call of duty for 34 years in Calgary. Holly wrote and published books, award-winning plays, and created, designed and produced children’s board games. She raised three children, making endless sacrifices and provided great care, leadership and guidance, as well as assistance in the upbringing of her cherished granddaughter Lara and ensuring morals and integrity were instilled in her and her grandson, Noah. Holly is survived by her daughters Kimberley and Allison, and her son Bryan (Ana), as well as her four grandchildren Noah, Lara, Benjamin and Layla. She will be lovingly remembered as simply “Mom”. Holly was predeceased by her brother Richard and her parents John and Lorna Malaka. Funeral services were held in Sidney, B.C. Monday, March 11, 2019.
