ISAAC, Mary

ISAAC, Mary - Our mother and grandmother went to be with our dad on January 26, 2011, thirty-one years to the day since her father went to be with the Lord. During the last several years, she often spoke longingly of her parents. She was born on the farm at Swalwell, Alberta to Frank and Katharina Hiebert on December 22, 1919. Her first 50 years were spent in the Linden-Swalwell area. She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized at the age of 15 years into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite to which she remained faithful until the end. She married our dad, John Isaac, on November 4, 1945. They were married for almost 65 years. In 1971, they moved to Fort Vermilion, AB, where they lived for 17 years. Then they moved to Enderby, BC, in 1989 where they retired. Mom's love of the prairies made it easy for her to return to Linden in the year 2000. At this time, they down-sized to the Lynn Haven apartments and then later moved into the Linden Nursing Home for their final years. Mom had a love of gardening and grew amazing flowers. In fall, canning filled her time as she joyfully stocked her cold room with preserves from the garden. Berry picking was usually a family picnic and always an adventure. Not only was Mom a great cook, she baked the best buns and bread. Mom's artistic ability came out when she designed quilt after quilt from the simplest pieces of scrap material. The challenges of sewing for all of us children never intimidated her as she made new clothes for us, even at times from used clothing. Mom dearly loved her grandchildren. Her last Christmas was memorable with family, especially when two of her great-granddaughters sat next to her on her bed and sang her a Christmas song. She was predeceased by her husband John, three sisters, four brothers and her daughter Nancy. She leaves behind Stan (Sharon) of Enderby, Lloyd (Pearl) of Pincher Creek, Stella (Brian) of Linden, Helen (Gary) of Saskatoon, Norma (Paul) of Calgary, Vera (Wayne) of Grande Prairie, and Frank (Eunice) of Linden, 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral Services were held Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Linden, Alberta. Condolences may be sent to condolences@sunsetltd.ca.
