KALLIS, Albert (Slim) Welhelm

Kallis

KALLIS, Albert (Slim) Welhelm ~ Albert Welhelm (Slim) Kallis was born to Edward and Emma (Summerfelt) Kallis on a farm near Hay Lakes, AB on December 31, 1922 into a family of (4) four brothers, Reinholt, Benny, Henry, Leopolt and (3) three sisters Lydia (Trempner), Alma (Walters) , and Freida (Alm). Of the siblings, only Leo & Freida remain living, in Edmonton and Camrose respectively. Albert was raised on farms in the Hay Lakes and New Sarepta districts. He pitched fastball for many years for New Sarepta, Cooking Lake, Sundre, Drumheller and finally for Hudson's Bay Oil & Gas at Cessford from 1961 to 1966. In 1951 he married Marlene Fester, who grew up on a farm across the road from where Albert was raised. In 1949 Albert was hired by New Superior Oils and in 1956 he went to Hudson's Bay Oil & Gas where he spent 26 years until 1982 when HBOG was bought by Dome Petroleum. Albert retired as Production Foreman with Dome in 1985. During his working years, the family lived at Sundre, Drumheller, Estevan, Cessford camp and in Olds from 1967 until his passing. He was passionate about sport: Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames; Calgary Stampeders, Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays. He spent many pleasant days beside a fishing hole; RV'd a few winters in Arizona, was a bowling king for a time, and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He spent time with his grand children and they fondly remember his patience at the playground, at the lake with a fishing rod, doing car repairs for a poor college student, a few extra bucks for someone in need and lots of free meals. He will be sadly missed, but suffered a great deal in the last days, and is now at peace with his Saviour. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Marlene, daughters Gail (Wayne) Dick of St. Albert, Valerie (Fred) Salvisberg of Falun, Heather (Dale) Shanks of Medicine Hat, and son Albert Jr. (Kim) of Coronation. He had 4 great grandchildren, Kaydence, Lucas, Elliot and Autumn. Albert's life was celebrated at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 5022-52 Street in Olds Alberta on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm.
