EDWARDS, (Norman) George Thomas

EDWARDS - (Norman) George Thomas - July 16, 1940-Feb 17, 2011~George Edwards passed away quietly, following a long physical battle of sarcoildosis and cancer. A strong man who often worked numerous jobs at once, George put God and then family first-always. He was the kind of dad who pulled his kids on the toboggan...going UP the hill. George was strong on guidelines, solid in work ethic, and foundational in his faith.  His relished times at Kananaskis country and "the farm" by Morningside, Alberta were places where memories were made. George became a gentle man in his senior years, sharing many hugs (and ice cream) with his grandchildren, time with Bible study friends, and peaceful moments with his wife of 45 years. Born in Ottawa, Ontario, George grew up in Calgary, Alberta, later attending Canadian Nazarene College in Winnipeg. He married  his college sweetheart, Edith Therou, on July 17, 1965. Making a career with Canada Post,  George took a break to ensure his children received an education at Prairie Bible school, and resumed employment at the post office as lead hand in Three Hills, Alberta, until his retirement.  George served for many years in the church as a board member, youth leader, lay person, treasurer, and when health would not allow physical service, a faithful prayer warrior. George will be lovingly missed by his wife, Edith Edwards, mother Dorothy (Edwards) Berg, daughters Rose Brower (Brad) Young (Rae Lee, Brock), Valerie (Dean) Hamm (Breanna, Kaelyn), Sylvia (Roger) Kirk (Austin, Levi, Josephine), sister Lorraine (Darrell) Gilkes, brother Dave (Mary) Edwards, brother in law Norman Schnell, sister in law Evelyn (Nolan) Haring.  George was predeceased by his father, Fredrick Edwards, step-fathers Frank Edwards and James Berg, son-in-law-Kelly Brower and sister-in-law Hazel Schnell. A memorial is to be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 for family and friends at 2:00, Emanual Baptist church, Three Hills.  A time of gathering and sharing will follow. Arrangements in care of Heartland Funeral Services Ltd., Olds, 403-507-8610 (www.heartlandfuneralservices.com). Donations in memory of George Edwards may be made to Kidztown Society, a ministry for kids which George was faithful in supporting for many years.
