LAMBERTH, Barbara

Barbara Lamberthjpg

Barbara Lamberth (97) passed away peacefully at Three Hills Long Term Care, her residence for the past 5 years.
Barbara was born in London, England on Sept 13, 1922. She had 2 brothers, Sydney killed in WW2 and Kenneth & sister in law Evie both deceased.
Barb was a very strong and determined lady. She took her nursing training as a young girl working tirelessly with medical teams during WW2. She graduated in 1945 & in 1948 she
joined the Queen’s Institute of District Nursing. In 1950 she went to Sweden nursing & stumbled on an advertisement for nurses in Drumheller, Canada. She applied & arrived in
Canada in 1952. In 1953 she moved to Three Hills & remained as the Public Health Nurse from 1953 to her retirement in 1980.
Many students from Linden, Trochu, Torrington, Huxley, Wimborne, & Three Hills will recall receiving immunizations from the dreaded health nurse. In those days, Barbara travelled
to all the schools, lined students up in alphabetical order & the shot was given. There was little time for fear & no backing out.
As much as local students disliked seeing “the health nurse coming” all have remained thankful to her for the immunizations for polio, mumps, measles, etc & the tireless work
Barbara did to keep everyone safe. She weighed & monitored babies, helped new Mom’s, checked children’s hearing & eyesight.
Over the years Barb took many trips back to England & on retirement she worked with Seniors setting up the Dale & Bunny Hector bus trips, with outings to B.C., Sask., Reno, NV
& many other places.
Barb had her name registered at The Chateau before the building was even completed & enjoyed her 3rd floor suite there for many years.
Barbara leaves to mourn her niece Valerie & husband Trevor, their daughters Amy & Lucy and nephew John. Barb has 6 great- great nieces & nephews. All of her family live in the
United Kingdom.
There will be no service for Barbara. Following cremation her ashes will be returned to her homeland England where she will be laid to rest with her brother Ken and sister-in-law
Evie. Funeral Services entrusted to Kneehill Funeral Services. Condolences may be emailed to kneehillfuneralservices@hotmail.com
