Christel Herta Jakob

April 17, 1922 – January 12, 2021

Family Internment January 20, 2021 at the Trochu Cemetery

Our beloved sister and aunt passed away peacefully in St. Mary’s Health Centre in Trochu. She was born at home in Pfeilsdorf, West Prussia (Germany) and came to Canada with her parents Franz and Katherine Jakob and sister, Anneliese, arriving in Trochu, Alberta August 10, 1924. The family briefly lived in Trochu and then moved about twelve miles southeast to farm. Christel attended Trochu, Harrow and Greenleaf schools, completing grade 9 in 1937. She left school to help with farm duties such as milking cows, stooking, tending to chickens, ducks and geese and gardening. She never married, but stayed on the family farm to care for her parents and brother, who had multiple sclerosis. After the passing of her mother and brother, Christel and her dad moved into Trochu in 1974. Years later, she designed a new home and moved into it in 1999. She was blessed with the love of nature, a talent and an eye for drawing, painting and woodcarving, skill in cooking delicious German meals, plus raising beautiful flowers and garden produce. She was gentle, generous and compassionate, always putting family first. Mini strokes resulted in a move to Golden Hills Lodge, and later to St. Mary’s Continuing Care in Trochu, where she resided for eight years. She is survived by her loving sister, Lily Campbell; nieces and nephews: Marlene (Edward) Knievel, Sandra Meding, Harvey (Edna) Stankievech, Glen (Clare) Stankievech, Donna (Allan) Anderson, Laurie (Alvin) Fitchett, Clinton (Deb) Stankievech, Ernest (Gwen) Meding; also Anne (Greg) Frolek and Terry Stankievech and many great and great-great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, siblings/in-laws: Anneliese (Art) Meding, Richard Jakob, Gerda (George) Stankievech, Ursula (Walter) Stankievech, and Reginald Campbell; nephews/niece: Walter Meding, Jeannette Stankievech, Russell Stankievech , Charles Campbell; great nephews: Michael Meding, Wacy Meding; great-great nephew: Jacob Knievel.
