POFFENROTH - Ellamae was born January 2, 1928 to Christine and Louie Gutman in Trochu, Alberta. Thinking Ellamae was dead, they set her aside to look after Christine. All of a sudden there was a yell from the basket. The Doctor took a second look and Ellamae was alive and well. She suffered a broken arm. Ellamae was raised in the Trochu area. She attended Tro-Val High School, ushered at the theater and played organ for St. John's Lutheran Church. Ellamae met her soul mate Earl at her confirmation at the tender age of 15. After graduation on October 9, 1946, Ellamae and Earl were married at St. John's Lutheran Church. The first winter was spent working in the bush and then they move to the farm now known as Skunk Hollow. The family started to grow, with Carolanne on December8, 1946; George on February 24, 1951; and Karen on November 16, 1960, and as years passed, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Ellamae lost Earl on September 11, 1980, but her love for the farm made her decision to stay there until 2006 when in Ellamae's words she was "returning home" when she took up residence at St. Mary's Lodge in Trochu. When Ellamae's health deteriorated she was moved to the Linden Nursing Home August 2010. She passed away February 28, 2011. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Swalwell Community Hall, Swalwell, AB with interment in Swalwell Cemetery.
