Kenneth Robert Pratt was born in Cereal, Alberta on May 17, 1945, the eldest of four sons born to Frank and Velma Pratt. He was raised on a farm in Esther, Alberta, completing high school at nearby New Brigden. Ken attended NAIT then worked as a mechanic in Oyen before returning to farming. In 1967 he married Gisela Schroeder. During their farming years, Ken and Gisela welcomed a son and four daughters into their lives. Edwin (Ed) Lee Broadway was born January 21, 1927, at home near Golconda, Illinois. At age seventeen Ed joined the U.S. Navy and received the WW II Victory Medal for his navy service.
