Doris Maxine Beaver Meding was born June 6, 1932 in Edmonton, Alberta, the second of two daughters born to Archie and Goldie McAffie Beaver. As a toddler, the family moved to Senlac, Saskatchewan. At 7 years of age, the family then moved to Rutland, Saskatchewan. Early in 1940, as rental farmers, the family sold everything they had and moved to Calgary, Kitscoty, then back to Edmonton. In 1941, Maxine’s father became ill, passing away in January 1943. Maxine was only 9 ½ years old.

Christine was born on the 25th of December 1935, Grimsby, England. She immigrated to Canada with her mother in 1947, living in Woodstock, N.B.
