Three Hills U16 Strike Gold! The Three Hills U16 Soccer team, Three Hills Strikers, are a shoe-in for provincials this year, based on the fact that they are the hosting team. But that fact did not stop them from leaving everything on the field during playoff week.
In quarter-finals, they battled Sundre on our home field, and showed their passing and scoring skills by taking the lead 5-0. They played their semi-final game in Olds against Cremona, and took the game 2-1. After a rest, they played again, this time taking on Linden. Linden had beaten Three Hills twice during regular season. It was an extremely close game, with DJ Callaway of Three Hills scoring the first goal. Every player that Coach Billy Coles put on the field gave it his all, as spectators watched under the first sunny sky they'd seen in days. During second half, coach sent out Mark Ibbotson, who has been out most of the season with injuries, and still cannot actually run on the field. With a  perfect pass from DJ, Mark put the ball cleanly in the net, giving Three Hills a 2-0 victory over Linden for the Gold Medal.
The teams will see each other again in Provincials.  Since Three Hills is the hosting team, the second place team will also play in provincials. The tournament will be held here on Wilson Fields July 9-11.  The weekend promises to be a lot of fun with organizers planning kick-to-win competitions, soccer skills competitions and fireworks. Eight teams from all over Alberta will get a chance to visit our fair town as they battle it out on the field.
Come on out and support your team and help Striker the Wolf cheer them on to Strike Gold again at Provincials!
