Acme Red Sox are 2010 Provincial Champions! The Acme Red Sox earned the Provincial Pee Wee Competitive Tier 2 title in Camrose, July 23-25. The Red Sox entered the championship tournament ranked #4 of 8 teams.
Strong hitting throughout the weekend and a deep pitching staff were key factors in their successful weekend. The Red Sox opened up the tournament on Friday with a 14-4 win over the Sherwood Park Athletics. Saturday morning the Red Sox defeated the Grande Prairie Reds 14-6, later on Saturday Acme suffered their only loss of the tournament at the hands of Strathmore Reds. The 2-1 record was good enough for first in their pool during the round robin portion of the tournament.
On Sunday, Acme defeated the St. Albert Cardinals in semi-final # 1 by a score of 11-6. In semi-final #2 the Grande Prairie Reds defeated the South Jasper Park (Edmonton) 16-9. This set up a rematch between Grande Prairie and Acme, this time for the Provincial Championship, Acme continued their hot hitting in defeating the Reds 13-11. Carson Boyd of the Red Sox was named MVP of the tournament after a stellar weekend at the plate and two quality pitching starts.
