Thrashers face stiff competition

The Three Hills Thrashers had a tough weekend, facing the top two teams in the Central division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League over the weekend.
After dumping the Mountain View Colts 9-3 last weekend, the Thrashers travelled to Airdrie on Friday night to face the Thunder. The game started positively for Three Hills as Joel Harrison scored just 41 seconds into play to give the Thrashers an early lead. However, the Thunder replied with three consecutive goals, two on the powerplay, before Corbin Weston scored his ninth goal of the season to draw Three Hills within a goal as the first period ended. The Thunder went ahead 4-2 in the second period and then stretched their lead early in the third period. However, the Thrashers continued to battle. Weston scored a couple minutes later and then notched his hat trick goal two minutes after that on a powerplay to put the Thrashers within a goal. However, the Thrashers could not beat Airdrie's goaltender who shut the door and the Thrashers lost 5-4 to the central division's top team.
Sunday aftrernoon the Thrashers travelled to Blackfalds to battle the always tough Wranglers. After Jamie Fabian got the Thrashers on the scoreboad with his first goal of the season, the Wranglers replied with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes. Blackfalds extended their lead early in the second stanza before Matt Wildeman scored a pair of powerplay goals midway through the period to even the score at 3-3. However, Blackfalds again took the lead with just under four minutes remaining in the middle frame. The Thrashers came out determined in the third period and were finally rewarded with just over two minutes remaining as Joel Harrison tied the score. Then with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation time, Corbin Weston's team leading 12th goal of the season gave the Thrashers the lead and victory. Cody Boeckman earned the victory in the Three Hills goal, stopping 30 Wranglers shots.
The Thrashers play a pair of home games this weekend, battling the Cochrane Generals on Friday night (8:00 pm) and then the Coaldale Copperheads on Saturday night (also 8:00 pm).
