Pickleball is coming to Three Hills

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in North America and is becoming popular not just with the baby boomer population, but with increasing numbers of young people too. It is a sport that is both physical and social, and is easily learned. It combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. It is played on a court smaller than a tennis court, with a lower net, and it uses a solid paddle 24” in area, with plastic wiffle balls. Both singles and doubles can be played, although doubles is quite popular as there is less running involved, and more people can play at the same time.

Pickleball is great for hand/eye coordination, mental strategy, concentration, and physical mobility. It is also great fun, and very addictive once learned, as no two games are the same, and there is so much to be learned and improved upon, in the company of active and competitive but also fun loving people.

The tennis courts in town have been resurfaced, with pickleball lines installed, and nets purchased. Outdoor play can begin soon, and should be able to run until temps fall, and/or snow flies . Days and times TBA. Indoor open play in Three Hills School will begin at the end of September, and run Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm.

There will be an Open House at the Three Hills gym TBA with exhibition games being played, as well as nets, balls, and paddles available for trial play. A workshop run by Red Deer Pickleball Supplies’ instructors will be planned for October, on a first-come sign up basis for anyone interested in joining and learning some skills. Paddles and balls will be available for purchase at that time.

Come and join the fun! Contact Gerri Tullikopf 443-0360 for more info. Watch the Capital for updated dates and times. Hope to see you on the courts!
