Jeff Bauer rink wins 2018 Three Hills Farmers Open Bonspiel

Farmers Spiel A 2018

The annual Three Hills Farmers Open Bonspiel was a resounding success last week as twenty-eight teams from around the county competed at the Three Hills Curling Club rink.

The winners in the highly competitive field were Torrington's Jeff Bauer rink (A Event), Mike Frolek's rink from Three Hills (B Event), the Derek Krywcun rink of Rumsey (C Event) and the Dan McArthur rink of Trochu (D Event).

More than 50 sponsors donated a great array of prizes for the top four teams in each event.

There was excellent food available every night of the six-day event.

One of the highlights was Prairie Brewing's selection of locally produced beverages.

Organizers Rob Davidson, Al Gorman and Darren Frere thanked the competitors as the prizes were awarded Sunday evening.

Ice-maker Shawn Fobes and his helpers received a round of applause for their work in keeping the four sheets in great shape.

Meanwhile, the club is looking for casual curlers of any age or experience to drop in on Tuesday and Friday mornings for pick-up curling. Names are drawn for teams and curling begins at 9:30 a.m.

Junior curling is in full swing on Tuesday evenings with Neil Boles and his helpers instructing and encouraging more than 40 youngsters.
