T.H.S.A. teams off to Provincials

THSA Soccer Districts Capital

Big Country Soccer districts was held in Carstairs this year on Saturday, June 16. It has been a great season for Three Hills as all our teams medaled this year!

The day started with our U13 girls playing in the gold medal match against Olds. Olds, in first place in the league, is a very strong team and they won 4-1 with Salem Stahl scoring our only goal. The team played a great game and fought through a tough season given the dynamics of their team having such a spread in ages this year. They took home the silver medal. We are proud of you girls!

U17/19 Boys advanced to the playoffs paired against Olds U19. These two teams are fairly evenly matched. Both teams hit the field and played hard. At halftime, we were down 3-0. Our entire team played hard, passed well, had great offense and great defense. The team really came together to turn a potential shut out into a 3-3 tie! As there has to be a winner in order to advance to the gold medal game, we then went to a Shoot Out. After the first five players on each team took their free kicks on goal, we were still tied! With our next players, we missed and Olds did not. Congratulations to our boys who won bronze! Thank you to the coach, Sandy Brown, for a great season!

Our U13 boys and U15 both played in their gold medal matches at 2 pm.

The U13 boys played against Carstairs, which has been the toughest team for them to play this year. The team played well and got two goals in the first half. The second half started with Carstairs putting one in our net, but we answered back with a third goal and won the district gold medal and an advancement to provincials with a score of 3-1. Congratulation boys and good luck in provincials in Carstairs on July 6-8.

Our U15, coming into districts in first place, played Linden, in second place. Our team has been dominant all year, but had lost their only game in the season to Linden. We fought hard, but couldn’t get past them this time and lost with a score of 3-1. We won the silver medal. Congratulations team! You played an amazing season!

Our final game was our U19 girls, in first place this season, playing Carstairs, in second place, at 6pm. Having lost 1-0 in district finals a year ago to Carstairs, we came into this final well prepared and ready for a hard fought game. The ladies were very composed and confident, demonstrating dominance in possession and working the ball around well as a team. Two early goals from Jackie Brown put us in a commanding position. A third goal from Molly Brown just before the half didn’t stop us from treating the game like a 0-0 draw, making sure to work in the second half to see the game through. A fourth goal from Molly Brown saw us win the game 4-0 and book our ticket to Provincials. Congratulations on your gold medal girls and good luck at Provincials in St. Paul on July 6-8.

Thank you to all the players for a season well played and to all the fans for cheering us on! Good luck to our teams heading to Provincials. They will represent Three Hills well!
