Three Hills Royals capture Mosquito A Tier 2 Provincial Gold

Mosquito Gold

The Mosquito A Tier 2 Provincial Championship was hosted in Three Hills from July 20-22, 2018 with the host team capturing gold.

The Three Hills Royals took top spot in their pool after going undefeated against the SWEMBA (Edmonton) Sox, Red Deer Red Braves and Foothills Outlaws. The other pool included teams from Fort McMurray, Kitscoty, Parkland and Red Deer Blue. All of the games were close with great fielding and hitting by these 10-11 year old baseball players.

The Royals won in the semi-finals on Sunday against the Fort McMurray Oil Giants 8-6, advancing to the final game to battle the Red Deer Braves Blue. After the top of the third inning, the championship game was tied 3-3. The Mosquitos hit the seams and scored 5 runs in the bottom of the third. The Braves tried to make a come back but our defense held them to only two runs in their last couple of bats. The Royals added to their total in the bottom of the 5th, going up 12-5, and with a 5 run cap rule per bat, the Braves couldn’t catch us.

The Three Hills Royals Mosquito A Tier 2 team consisted of Caden Fobes, Lane Geddes, Nathan Graham, Jaydee Grosfield, Ben Harkness, Lucas Hoppins, Ty Keiver, Grady Kubinec, Jackson Reimer, Corbin Sanderman, Keigan Vaughan, and coaches Brad Geddes, Shaun Fobes, Gabe Graham, Manager Tara Geddes.

Hosting the provincials on short notice was an added victory with the numerous volunteer hours by the team, community and kids. Sponsorships from the community contributed to their success, and having hometown fan support sealed the deal. Congratulations Three Hills Royals!
