Prairie Pilots celebrate graduating athletes with “Flight Night”

Prairie Flight Night 2019

The Briercrest Clippers came to town on the weekend to compete against the Prairie Pilots Women’s Basketball team.

Friday evening’s “Flight Night” drew a large crowd in support of the Pilots, as they celebrated all graduating athletes who donned the Pilots jersey this season. A total of 25 graduating athletes were recognized. Three of the women on Prairie’s basketball team received the award, as team co-captain Nicole Bublitz is graduating with a Diploma in Sports Ministry & Management, Sarah Harken will graduate with her Certificate in Bible, and Lauren McGaw will graduate from the Primary Care Paramedic program and will also receive a Certificate in Ministry. Senior graduating student Jean-Samuel Lampron received a special award in recognition of his athletic participation during each of his years on campus.

Faculty member Carmen Imes was recognized for her support of the Pilots this year, as was Director of Student Financial Services Doug Johnson.

Both of the games on the weekend against the Clippers were counted as victories for the Pilots, after Briercrest forfeited the games due to injuries and a short bench. Head Coach Pamela Fraser commented that the team is “grateful for these games to continue to grow as a team and prepare for our upcoming championships… Our team is strengthening as more players are gaining confidence on offense and scoring. We saw 12 points from Rebecca Allen who is a consistently positive presence for our team on and off the court. Our captains Sierra Nelson and Nicole Bublitz led confidently and ensured that we stayed calm and focused when Briercrest came within two points.”

On Monday evening, the Burman Bobcats came to verse the Pilots in the final game at the RDAC this season. The Pilots defeated the Bobcats handily with a score of 76-19.

The Pilots will compete in the Prairie Athletic Conference Championships this coming weekend at Millar College in Pambrun, Saskatchewan.
