That's Life - June 6, 2018

Congratulations to the Three Hills Street Freaks and the Three Hills Cruise Weekend Committee for yet another outstanding Cruise Weekend event.

Thousands of people roll into our community to take this event in. Many worthy causes benefit each and every year from the dedication of those who make it happen. We owe all of those individuals our sincere thanks. These events don’t just happen.

It’s all about volunteerism. Volunteers are what makes this town tick. I stole that line from former Mayor Myrna Bauman and I get a lot of mileage out of it. I use it a lot because it’s so true. Where would we be without volunteers?

I just returned to my desk after enjoying lunch and speaking at the Seniors Outreach Annual General Meeting.

This great organization is in its 23rd year of operation. Aside from board members and staff, Seniors Outreach operated, in 2017, with 155 volunteers dedicating 9,556 hours of service. Clients accessed Seniors Outreach services 13,318 times. That number continues to grow but the volunteer count is down 22 from 2016. Please find it in your heart and your schedule to step up and serve this valuable organization.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Three Hills Health Centre for their care and concern following my lawn mowing incident on Sunday.

In short, I was pulling my lawn mower back and didn’t look where I was going. I tripped over a planter, knocked over a landscape pillar and cement vase and then fell flat on my back, driving my head into the pillar.

Now, well into my third term, as Mayor of Three Hills, I have often been asked “What’s the matter with you, do you have a hole in your head?” Well, now I can honestly say, “Yes”.

It was quite a blood bath but my wife rushed me to emergency. Once there I was in like a flash and stitched up. I did hear a lady say she had been waiting for an hour and a half so I did feel a little guilty. No headache, no blurred vision, no sick stomach, just a big goose egg. I’ll keep an eye on it. Hey, if I had eyes in the back of my head, this never would have happened. Maybe I’ll get a gardener for Father’s Day. Fat chance.

That’s Life.
