Saturday night’s Town of Three Hills Winter Celebration and Tree Burn was an outstanding success. About 600 people, of all ages, came out to the Three Hills Recreation Park (Campground) for free hot dogs, hot chocolate, a raging bonfire and wonderful fireworks.

Folks, this is what community is all about. People from all walks of life getting together and having some food, and good old fashioned family fun. It didn’t hurt that the weather wasn’t bad.

Special thanks to the members of Three Hills Fire and Rescue for handling the bonfire, to Public Works for picking up the old Christmas trees and to the Volunteers from Council, Administration and Staff of the Town of Three Hills for operating the concession and to the many sponsors who helped make the event such a success. Jacqueline Buchanan is a very modest individual but she is an amazing organizer and has this event fine tuned. She deserves a lot of thanks.

So, here we are right in the middle of National Non-Smoking Week. Like many of you out there, I used to smoke. I quit smoking cigarettes about 35 years ago. When our youngest son was born, I bought a case of Shwisher sweet cigars. When a baby was born, the tradition was to hand out cigars. Well, I ran out so I bought another case. Then I ran out of friends. I smoked the rest.

It took me awhile but I finally kicked the habit cold turkey. That was about 20 years ago Quitting smoking was a triumph for me. A real breath of fresh air.

That’s Life.
