That's Life - April 3, 2019

In two weeks, Alberta Election 2019 will be over and we will all know the outcome. What party will lead this great province for the next four years? In the constituency of Olds/Didsbury/Three Hills, your ballot choices will be: Alberta Party - Chase Brown, UCP - Nathan Cooper, FCP - Allen MacLennan, NDP - Kyle Johnston and Alberta Advantage - Dave Hughes. May the best party win and then follow up on the promises their Leaders have made to the citizens of Alberta. That’s the hard part.

Have you ever wondered why it seems to take an election before all of the things that went wrong are, all of a sudden, going to get fixed? In a perfect world perhaps. But whatever happens you, as an eligible Albertan, really must get out to the polls and cast your ballot. Never think your vote doesn’t matter. Sometimes elections are decided over a single vote. That’s why there are recounts and they happen a lot.

I had the pleasure of attending the Annual Kneehill Historical Museum Fundraising Supper and Silent/Live Auction last Saturday evening. Congratulations to Rosalie Lammle and her vast number of volunteers for hosting a first-class community event.

The Prairie Christian Academy and Three Hills School Bands performed and really did an amazing job.

I was given the task to present a history of the community and School Band programs in Three Hills and that is really up my alley so I had a lot of fun with it. I had planned on strumming my 12 string guitar and singing an old country tune with humorous modifications but when I learned that PCA Band Director Barry Sommer had a Bachelors Degree in Music with a Major in Classical Guitar, I changed my act. Who am I kidding, I just sounded really bad.

I also proudly announce that Dr. Robert deFrece and the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus and Faculty of Handbell Ringers will be performing in Three Hills on Saturday, May 4. This fabulous concert will take place at the Mt. Olive Evangelical Missionary Free Church at 7 pm.

For those of you who don’t know, Dr. deFrece is a native son of Three Hills. Three Hills was selected for the final concert in their 75th Anniversary Spring Tour series. Admission is free but there will be a free will offering.

Proceeds from the evening will be split between the Jubellation Handbell Ringers, of Three Hills, and the Mural upgrade fund.

This week we present you with our 2019 Ag Outlook. Oh, I know many of us felt like spring would never come. This was a long winter but the robins and geese have returned and soon the farmers will be in the fields.
