That's Life - July 31, 2019

The August long weekend is upon us and, once again, I am reminding everyone to play safe. RCMP, Peace Officers and members of the Sheriff’s department will be out in full force with their Checkstops.

As this is the first August long weekend where cannabis is legal, remember to “Keep your skunk in the trunk”. Transport your cannabis in the same fashion as alcohol, locked up in the trunk of your vehicle, out of the reach of the driver and all passengers. And remember, if you consume alcohol or cannabis, do not operate a motor vehicle.

Also, please remember to refrain from talking or texting on your cell phone while driving. My wife and I were in Canmore on Monday and we were more than disappointed when we saw the driver of an ambulance talking on his cell phone while driving through a grocery store parking lot. That’s not what I would call setting a good example.

Also, remember that the August long weekend marks the beginning of summer holidays for some families and the end of holidays for others. The roads will be busier than average and everyone seems to be in such a hurry to get where they’re going. Do yourself and everyone else a favour and slow down.

And, as always, we are reminded that “summer is almost over” and “It’s time for Back to School”. Well, I disagree. Last time I checked, we have about 51 days of summer to savour and the first day of school is not until Tuesday, September 3, 2019. That’s a cool 33 days left of summer holidays. As an adult, I would love to have 33 days off. I could actually find things to do for 33 days or at least I would love to give it a try. Mind you, after the first week I would probably end up pacing so I’ll just get back to work.

That’s Life.
