That's Life - December 4, 2019

It was great to see so many folks out enjoying the Annual Moonlight Madness activities on Friday night.

I remember walking into Gus Hamilton’s Men’s and Boy’s Store one day in the fall of 1985. My long-time friend Ruth Wright was working that day and she suggested Three Hills would be a good fit for a Midnight Madness campaign.

On December 20, 1985, the first Midnight Madness, in Three HiIls, packed the town. Stores stayed open until midnight, like the name would suggest.

So, here we are in 2019, still going strong. Oh sure, there are fewer mom and pop retail outlets and the late night shopping hours have been trimmed but spirits are still high and the shoppers still enjoy the great savings.

The Moonlight Christmas Farmer’s Market featured over 80 vendors and offered everything from soup to nuts.

And let’s not forget that Moonlight Madness marks the official kick-off to Christmas with the lighting of the Three Hills Water Tower lights and the lighting at Anderson Park.

Don’t forget the “Forest of Lights” will brighten the sky in Trochu beginning Friday, December 13 at 5:30 pm to January 1, 2020. The Village of Carbon is having their Skating Rink Grand Opening and Christmas Light up on Saturday, December 7. See the Village of Carbon ad on page 14 of this issue for all the details. Linden’s annual ‘Light Up the Village’ celebration will take place Saturday, Dec. 7, with festivities to begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Coulee Campground, followed later, at 6:00 p.m. with ‘Light Up the Rink’.

I would like to mention that there will be a Community Christmas Swimming Party, for all ages, at the Three Hills Aquatic Centre on Saturday, December 14 from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The free swim features games, prizes, candy canes and more and is made possible by the many generous sponsors listed on page 11 of this issue and on posters throughout the Town.

Also, I urge everyone to stop by our office at 411 Main Street, Three Hills, to sign our Community Christmas Card. The cost is $3 for individuals or $5 for your immediate family. All of the funds collected go directly to the Three Hills Area Food Bank. The absolute signing deadline is Tuesday, December 17, 2019. You will receive this year’s Christmas issue on Wednesday, December 18.
