Seniors Outreach News November 6, 2013

November is the time to remember, lest we forget the sacrifices others made for our freedom.  Did you know that over a million Canadian troops participated in World War II? Of that number, 77,700 were from Alberta. We all owe these Canadian heroes a debt of gratitude. These men were our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers. Ordinary men who were forced to step up to the plate and make a difference.
Seniors Outreach, in partnership with the Three Hills Royal Canadian Legion, is offering a Veterans Appreciation Event on Friday, November 8th at the CommUnity Drop-In Centre from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The evening will be facilitated by a WWII vet who has selected two Canadians at War videos to show - one is about the Battle of Dieppe (France) that involved the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division and the Calgary Tank Regiment. Although 60% lost their lives in this battle, was it really a failure? The second video is on D-Day and why it was a success. If you enjoy history or had a family member who served in WWII, this is an evening you won't want to miss. It will be a learning experience for all and a great way to find out how our Canadian troops were involved. Come out and join this event and help us celebrate the seniors in this community who were part of the million Canadians who served this country.
