Seniors Outreach - July 8, 2020

GEM OF THE DAY: “The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” It always has amazed me that those who ‘dream’ about the future and begin to ‘see’ the future, have a most exciting life. Walt Disney, as most of us are aware, was one of these entrepreneurs or dreamers. He died in December of 1966. This story always gives great insight into the Disney’ perspective.

Tomorrowland, a futuristic section of the park, opened along with the Florida park on October 1, 1971. Disney’s wife, Lillian, was invited to the opening of the Florida Disneyland and Tomorrowland. One of the gentlemen at the opening remarked to Lillian, “It’s a shame that Walt didn’t get to see the opening of Tomorrowland.” “Oh,” said Lillian, “But he did see it.”

As we go through this COVID-19 pandemic and its health parameters, I trust that we begin to have a greater time to ‘see’ what we may be like on the other side of this time period. It is important that 2020 not become just a ‘lost’ year in our minds, but a time of ‘dreaming’ about what great things we will see in the future as we gain greater insight into how to help our family, friends, and community.

If we follow the model of investing our ideas and insights based on our past and present – we will ‘see’ the future. As seniors, I am convinced that we have a great ability to do this.
