Perhaps one of the biggest highlights will be an outdoor rain or shine evening concert featuring country singer Gord Bamford. It is quite a big deal as he received 'Album of the Decade Honors' in February 2010 by Canadian Country Music News for his album "Honkytonks and Heartaches". He was a Canadian Country Music Award winner in 2008 and in 2009 he received nine nominations. In November 2009 he won a SOCAN (Society of Composers Authors & Music Publishers of Canada) award for his song "Stayed Til Two". He opened for George Strait at the 2009 Calgary Stampede and toured with Brooks & Dunn in October 2009. Gord Bamford just released his 4th album "Day Job" this past April on which he wrote 11 of the 13 songs. Heck yeah, this sounds like a good time and when the lights go out, there will be fireworks.
Worth getting up early for is the Businessmen's free pancake breakfast, followed by the parade and possibly a life-size foosball tournament and business men's challenge (on main street after parade). That is so worth shutting down main street for. Sounds promising that at least 500 children will receive a helium filled balloon. That's better than candy! Calgary Stampede Queen and her Princesses will be in attendance and will sign autographs.
The grounds are going to be full of children's rides, games and activities (some require a purchased wrist-band to gain entry). What could be more fun for little ones than a ferris wheel, photo booth, airbrush tattoos, caricature artist, mini-golf courses, and a magic show. There is rumours of pony rides for tots and some live jazz/Latin musicians for adults. There is a barbecue supper.
