Phil Callaway Invitational raises $25,000

On June 16, the rain held back just long enough for golfers to enjoy the first ever Phil Callaway Invitational golf tournament. The purpose was to raise money to renovate dorm rooms at Prairie, and $25,000 came in, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, golfers, and premiere sponsor, Steven C. Snyder.
"Best tournament ever," said local photographer Ron Nickel. "To have the President of Prairie meet you in the parking lot and carry your bags to your cart? It was something I won't forget."
Golfers came from as far away as Abbotsford, BC, and were not disappointed. Mike Olver, who organized the event for Callaway, said that golfers were asked in an online survey: How likely would you be to participate in next year's tournament? "One hundred percent of them clicked the box that said, 'Nothing will keep me away. Not chores, work, or To Do lists."
"It was a blast," said host Phil Callaway. "Except Norm Campion shot six, yelled fore, and wrote down three! But seriously, we're seeing so much good will toward Prairie right now, in this community and beyond. A few golfers want us to host it at Pebble Beach next year, but I like the price here, and the sand traps are smaller. Plus Jim's steaks were fantabulous."
The tournament was sold out.
