Director of Finance

The Town of Three Hills is seeking a motivated professional to lead and provide overall strategic direction to the Finance department, which includes accounts payable and receivables, payroll, tax and utilities, and customer service. The Director will develop a positive culture within the department, through a progressive and visionary leadership style in a unionized environment, while aligning with organizational goals and strategic priorities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead, manage, and monitor the Finance department

• Develop and maintain financial and capital plans and budgets

• Ability to lead, coach, and mentor staff in a unionized setting

• Maintain financial, accounting, and administrative services in support of municipal operations

• Ensure the integrity of revenues and accuracy of financial statements

• Facilitate communication between internal departments and external agencies

KEY COMPETENCIES

• Demonstrate strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills

• Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team and other departments

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Working knowledge of municipal accounting software system Microsoft GP (Diamond)

• In depth knowledge of financial operations, controls, and accounting in a municipal setting

• Ability to interpret and implement organizational policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be eligible to register as a member of CPA Alberta

• Completion of post-secondary education in the field of finance, accounting, or public administration

• Knowledge and experience in municipal legislation and finance systems, and Public Sector Account Board (PSAB)

• Minimum of three to five (3-5) years’ experience in a municipal finance setting

• Minimum of five to eight (5-8) years’ leadership experience at a management level

Aquatic Centre Lifeguards and Instructors

The Town of Three Hills is seeking multiple individuals wanting a flexible work schedule, to join the team at the Aquatic Centre. Reporting to the Aquatic Centre Manager, the Aquatic Centre Lifeguards and Instructors are to assist in the enforcement of facility rules, safety, and instruction of all users of a public swimming facility. Involvement in activities to provide quality swimming, fitness, and other programs and services. These positions will work a varied schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Adhere to processes and policies in support of municipal goals and legislative requirements

• Ensure the safety of the public and maintain the facilities

• Provide management with accurate and timely information to ensure facility operations are maintained in an effective and efficient manner

• Work cooperatively with the management team and support other departments

• Prevent dangerous situations and recognize the signs of emergencies while taking appropriate actions

• Practice and encourage safe work behaviors

• May be required to perform general pool and equipment maintenance

• May be required to perform general cleaning duties throughout the facility

• May be required to greet public and respond to telephone inquiries in a professional manner

• Perform basic math calculations

The preferred candidate will possess:

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum education equivalent of grade 10

• Minimum 16 years of age

• Current Standard First Aid Certification

• Ability to communicate effectively with the public, supervisors, and coworkers

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

• Ability to use discretion regarding confidential matters

• Ability to work evenings, and weekends, variable hours with a maximum 29 hours per week

Lifeguard

• Current National Lifeguard Certification – Pool

• Current Water Safety Instructor Certification

Instructor

• Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification

• Current Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) Certification an asset

• Ability to obtain Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) training
