Linden July 2, 2014

FREE Summer Day Camp
Starts Thursday July 3 and will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays until August 26 at the skating rink. Sign in at 9 am and pick your children up at 3 PM. There will be games, crafts and lots of activities to keep your children busy throughout the day. They need to bring a lunch, snacks, water, hat and sunscreen. For more information, contact the village office.

Over the past year or so, the Village has seen a number of small increases to the rate we pay Aqua 7 Regional Water Commission to purchase water for our residents. Aqua 7 has had increases passed onto them from the Town of Drumheller. The Village has managed to maintain our rate until now, so effective July 1st the water rate our customers pay will be $3.70 per cubic meter (that is an increase of 10¢ per cubic meter).

Tax notices have been mailed on June 11, 2014. If you have any questions regarding your notice, please contact the village office. The deadline for remitting your 2013 Property Tax levy is July 31st, 2014. Please ensure that your payment is at the Village Office on or before this date. The Village also offers a tax payment plan. Contact the office for more details or to enroll in the payment plan.

The use of any ATV, motorized dirt bike or snowmobile is prohibited on village property, including all parks and other green spaces, landing strip, roads and alleyways. The village does not offer trails or public property access for any motorized off-road vehicles. The County Peace Officer is watching for offenders and you will be ticketed. These vehicles cause damage to the village property and it's the taxpayers that suffer in the end. Before you ride, think of your neighbours. It is a safety issue as well as a property damage issue.

It is that time of year when things seem to growing rather quickly. Just a reminder that all yards need to be kept tidy and weeds need to removed. Shrubs and trees need to be kept trimmed and may not interfere with the use of public sidewalks. Please ensure that any garbage that is not removed by public works is taken to the proper transfer station. There is a list available at the village office or on the website (in the FORMS section) of what Linden and Torrington will take. Help keep Linden a beautiful village to live in.

Summer meetings will be held July 21st and August 18th. The public is welcome to attend these meetings. Regular meetings will resume in September.

Due to Environmental Regulations burnables (leaves, grass etc.) will no longer be picked up. Plastic Bags are not allowed in the pit and it is not justifiable for our employees to open hundreds of bags before dumping. We will continue to pick up tree branches as long as they are cut into 4 foot lengths or less and bundled so that they can be easily handled. The burn pit is open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10 – 6 and Saturdays from 9 – 5.
