Linden February 11, 2015

OFFICE HOURS – The Village of Linden office will be closed on February 16th, 2015 for Family Day.

GARBAGE PREPARATION – Please ensure that your garbage bin, can or collection area is clear of loose garbage. Loose garbage can attract wildlife which will cause further issues and can become a health hazard. Please make sure that all garbage is in a garbage bag, not a grocery bag or loose in the bin or can.

2015 MINISTER’S SENIORS SERVICE AWARDS – Do you know someone who volunteers with Seniors?  Or an organization that helps Seniors? Why not nominate them for a Seniors Service Award. Nomination forms are available at the Village office. The deadline is February 27, 2015. Support our volunteers and let them know that you think they are doing a great job.

GARBAGE BIN UPDATE – The Village of Linden Council has revisited its decision to purchase new garbage bins. There will be a new Garbage Bylaw coming soon which will be changing the requirements on how garbage is stored and what containers will be acceptable. Please watch here for more information in the upcoming weeks. You can also attend council meetings to find out what is happening in your village. Minutes from the council meetings are available on the website.

COUNCIL MEETINGS – Regular meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 7 PM at the Village Office. Public Welcome.

SIDEWALK CLEANING – The owner or occupant of any premises abutting a sidewalk shall clear away all snow, ice, dirt or other obstruction from sidewalks situated on land adjoining the property owned or occupied by them within FORTY-EIGHT (48) HOURS after the time such snow, ice, dirt or other obstruction was deposited or formed on the sidewalk.

WINTER GUIDELINES – Now that the snow has arrived we ask that the residents of the village take some proactive steps to help our Public Works department clear the snow more efficiently.
• Be sure that the access to your garbage bin is clear of snow and ice on the collectors side.
• Whenever possible, park your vehicles off the roadway to allow for the plows to clear as much snow as possible, especially in the cul-de-sacs as vehicles make it difficult to maneuver snow removal equipment.
• Ensure that no vehicles are left on the street for more than 72 hours, as they could be towed, and it impedes the snow removal process.
• Try to shovel as much snow from your sidewalk onto your lawn as possible.
• Be a snow angel and help those that are unable to shovel their own snow, it will be appreciated.
