Half Price Landfill Day: May 29, 2021 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
To help with spring cleaning, Town of Three Hills residential properties can deliver their household and yard waste to the town landfill for ½ price, Saturday, May 29th, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Please bring a copy of your utility bill or other identification with your residential street address.
Combined Property Tax Assessment and Notices for 2021
were mailed on May 21, 2021.
Property Taxes are due June 30, 2021.
Methods of Payment:
You have the option of paying your taxes with cash, cheque, debit card or online banking (where available). Note: Payments cannot be made via wire transfer or on a credit card. Post-dated cheques with dates up to June 30, 2021, are acceptable and payments will be processed as of the date on the post-dated cheque. Cheque’s received by mail must be postmarked on or before June 30, 2021, or will be considered late.
Pre-Authorized Payment Plan:
The Town of Three Hills offers a Pre-Authorized Payment Plan to individuals and organizations that request this option. Twelve monthly instalments are electronically deducted from a designated bank account on the first business day of each month. Please contact the Tax Clerk at (403) 443-5822 or in person at 232 Main Street if you wish to receive more information on or to sign up for the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan.
Late Payments and Penalties:
Accounts not paid in full prior to June 30, 2021, will accumulate the following penalties:
• 5% penalty will be assessed on unpaid current taxes on July 1, 2021.
• 5% penalty will be assessed on unpaid current taxes on October 1, 2021.
• 10% penalty will be assessed on unpaid total balance outstanding on January 1, 2022.
* Tax accounts on the Pre-Authorized Payment Plan are not subject to the penalties on July 1, 2021, October 1, 2021, and January 1, 2022.

Can I prune my trees in spring?
Spring can be a great time to prune your trees. As you see new growth and leaves budding now is the time to remove deadwood or broken branches caused by winter storms. You can also prune and shape for aesthetics, however, be careful not to remove more than 10% of the tree’s canopy as heavy pruning is not recommended for spring but better left for dormancy during fall and winter months.
How do I make sure my trees and shrubs are healthy?
1. Cleanup
Clean up any debris, such as sticks and leaves around the tree. Eliminating potential places for unwanted bugs and mold to live. Also remove any holiday decorations that may girdle branches.
2. Mulching
Provide the base of the tree with a disease free mulch layer of 3 inches. Keeping mulch back from the tree trunk 3-4 inches.
3. Watering
Give your tree a slow deep soak watering around the dripline. Heavy slow watering less frequently is more beneficial than short light watering.
4. Pruning
Make sure to cut away all dead branches. Remove any branches that are crossing or rubbing on other branches. Do not attempt to remove limbs that are too high or heavy, consult a professional who has proper equipment and knowledge in how to remove large limbs.
5. Fertilize
Fertilize your tree around its dripline with the appropriate nutrient mix for the time of year and species of tree. Consult your local arborist for advice and service options.
When to Trim Hedges:
As a general rule, prune the hedge before the new growth blocks the sun from the lower leaves. As the lower leaves lose sunlight, they begin to die off in favor of the new growth.
