ARBORETUM FACILITY MANAGER
POSITION TITLE: Facility Manager
REPORTS TO: Chief Administrative Officer, Town of Trochu
WORKS WITH: The Town of Trochu, the Arboretum Board, staff and
volunteers
POSITION TYPE: Hourly
HOURS PER WEEK: 40
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Town of Trochu is seeking an Arboretum
Facility Manager for the Trochu and District Arboretum and Gardens.
The Arboretum is a beautiful park situated on the north side of Trochu
which includes hundreds of varieties of trees, shrubs, perennials and
annuals. The historical park area is home to many events including
tours, photo sessions, and weddings. Visitors enjoy the peaceful setting
of the gardens. A separate café facility is also part of the grounds and
is managed under a separate contract.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a working manager's position and the
successful candidate will possess skills in arboriculture and horticulture,
weed identification, turf management and will be responsible for the
day-to-day operations including all maintenance, program coordination,
marketing, staffing and supervision, upkeep, reporting, and improvements.
The manager is an employee of the Town of Trochu and is required to
work within the confines of an annual budget.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 Education supplemented by courses and/or certificates in
horticulture or arboriculture.
• A valid Alberta driver's license
• Ability to grow and maintain plants and trees
• Expertise in gardening and the ability to adapt to changing growing
and weather conditions
• Experience supervising and managing staff and/or volunteers
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to deliver concise reports to the immediate supervisor
• Demonstrated leadership qualities
• Experience working with non-profit and volunteer groups
TERM: This position will commence on or about April 1, 2013 and
will terminate October 15, 2013. The term of the position is
under review and may lead to permanent part-time or full-time
employment.
