Over $1 Million Raised In Rumsey’s Annual ‘Ride For A Million’

STARS Firefighters 2023

The 34th annual Rumsey ‘Ride for a Million’ took place on Sunday, August 13 at the Rumsey Agriplex, finally reaching their goal of raising over $1 million dollars towards STARS over the years.

The horse ride from Rumsey to Rowley, started in the morning, after breakfast, followed by the Rumsey Fire Department landing the STARS helicopter at 3 p.m. on the baseball field at the Rumsey Agriplex.

Rumsey’s Ride for a Million is the longest-running volunteer fundraiser for STARS in Alberta. The presentation consisted of speeches from organizer Rob Richmond, Greg Powell, the founder of STARS, and a STARS experience story from Jace Thorsteinson. Lynn Tanner won the highest ride pledges raised in 2023 and was awarded a buckle.

There were 21 horse riders and 15 walkers participating in this year’s event, including 95-year-old Marvin Donahay.

Many locals came out to support the event and view the helicopter. A beef supper was hosted in the evening with a silent auction, poker rally and a quilt raffle.
