Support Coach Program Yields Excellent Results

Three Hills Town Council welcomed Michaela Clark, FCSS Kneehill Community Support Coach, to their Monday, April 8, 2024 regular meeting of council. Attending with Michaela was Kneehill Regional FCSS Director Shelley Jackson-Berry.

Created in 2021, the Kneehill Community Support Coach program contributes to the Kneehill Regional FCSS mission to maintain and strengthen the quality of life for all residents.

This is done through planning and facilitating evidence-based preventive education programs and activities for children, youth and families. It promotes social and emotional well-being for children, youth and families while serving the communities of Three Hills, Trochu, Carbon, Acme, Linden and Kneehill County.

Programs include leadership, art, additional child programs and teen programs.

Skills targeted to build resilience include personal, emotions, interpersonal and leadership.

There have been 64 programs offered to date with 42 programs and 157 sessions facilitated with an 82% overall program attendance rate.

There were 197 participants with 64 participating in multiple programs. 123 participants attend a town school while 24 are home schooled.

Municipalities contributed $30,000 to the $69,404.54 budget. Golden Hills contributed $5,000, and Kneehill Regional FCSS contributed $33,754.54. $650 was donated.

Participant outcomes under the heading “Self Esteem” saw 94% reporting the program helped them understand it is okay to be themselves. 91% reported the program helped them to feel good about themselves more often.

Under “Interpersonal Skills” 73% of participants reported they are better at telling others about their feelings. 86% of participants reported they are better able to work with others on a team.

100% of parents stated the program their child or teen attended helped them to feel good about themselves.

97.6% of parents stated they would be interested in similar programming in the future.
